Wholesale Gardening Supplies

You don't have to spend tons of money on gardening supplies and tools. Here's the best ways to save:

  • Swap With Neighbors

Our family does this all the time; and it's a great money saver. Why buy the tools if you don't have to.

  • Shop Craig's List, Yard Sales and Flea Markets

We've had great success with this; especially the yard sales where you can find excellent deals for pennies on the dollar. Generally at yard sales, people are getting rid of things they no longer use or need; so they're very open to negotiation.

  • Off-Peak Season

During late summer, early fall garden stores are looking to clear their shelves for fall/winter inventory; so you can get some great deals this way.

  • Household Tools

Without a doubt, this is another great money saver. Why buy garden tools if you don't have to. For instance, you can use your kitchen scissors/shears for pruning. You can also use egg cartons to start growing seedlings and milk jugs to spread fertilizer.

  • Rent Equipment

Instead of draining your bank account for a tiller and other expensive equipment; rent it. Better yet, at the beginning of the season consider doing what we do - go in with the neighbors to rent a tiller for even bigger savings!

Cheap Garden Edging

Unfortunately, the renting option won't work here. Whether your goal is to grow cheap garden plants or beautiful cheap garden flowers, you'll need to purchase materials for your garden edging.

The good news is there are many economical options available. Instead of paying an expensive landscaper, you can use log roll edging which looks fantastic with gardens. You can even stain the wood to your liking. Bricks or pavers are another thrifty choice.

You can also find affordable edging at your local hardware or garden store. This includes inexpensive rubber and plastic edging which are also flexible to conform to the shape of your garden. Wooden cutoffs are another great option.
