Cheap and Easy Halloween Costumes

  • Homemade Costumes

Oh yes, this is our favorite to share with you. Halloween costumes don't have to be store purchased, expensive outfits. Some of the store costumes are nice and have some originality; but you'll pay extra for that in most instances.

You can put together nice inexpensive halloween costumes at home. Not only will you save a bundle, but you'll get your creative juices flowing and have a blast putting these outfits together.

Between Tim and I, and of course our children, we've put together some really neat costumes over the years. For example, a ghost using a sheet and some markers. A tourist where you wear a touristy shirt, like a Hawaiin shirt, a camera and sunglasses. Guys can dress as girls and girls as guys. Other simple ideas you can use: a clown, scarecrow, grapes (using balloons or plastic grapes) and the hunchback of Notre Dame (wearing a sweatshirt and rolled up clothing for the hunchback).

  • When to Buy Costumes

If you decide to purchase a costume, then the best time to purchase is off-peak. Immediately after Halloween, you'll be able to get deep discounts on costumes; whether the stores are on or off-line. The trick will be making sure you know what you or your family member want to dress up as for the next year. Also, your selection will be more limited.

You can also buy your costumes just before Halloween. This is the time the stores need to clear their inventory and you can find terrific bargains! The only drawback would be that you have less costumes to choose from; but remember, you only need 1 per person and the deep discounts make it worth while.

  • Where to Buy

When it comes to accessories, you can find great deals at thrift stores or dollar stores. For instance, you can buy a cowboy holster and gun for a little boy or princess jewelry for girls.

Did I forget to mention FREE! Why not swap last year's costume for a relative's or friend's outfit? We've done this on a couple of occassions and you can't beat the price.
