Cheap Homemade Christmas Gifts, Easy Creative Gift Ideas

by Kristen

Cheap Homemade Christmas Gifts - Have you ever noticed that around the holidays, an overwhelming majority of people are driven to make their homes not just cleaner and prettier, but fancier, more plush and accessorized, as well?

Maybe this is because of impending, judgmental, family guests. Maybe this is so that no great photo taken will look any less picture-perfect because of a less than stellar backdrop. Or maybe it is just because the holidays give people an excuse to go wild with all those little household extras. Whatever the reason, various parts of the household – especially likely settings for those with cameras to be aiming at, such as dining tables and living rooms – tend to have all their available surfaces transformed by the addition of seasonal décor accents. Normally overpriced care of the spirits of interior decorating and consumerism, these seasonal décor accents are a goldmine when it comes to ideas for cheap homemade Christmas gifts.

Basic sewing skills go a long way here, because gorgeous holiday fabrics and trims of up to two yards in length are going to be plentiful in fabric and craft stores, at remnant prices. Many holiday designs will be perfect for making some throw pillows, a reasonably sized table runner, or a tablecloth for a small accent table.

Depending on the size of the fabric store or department, there might be an entire aisle of remnants, or just a shelving unit, usually by the cutting table. Wal-Mart’s Fabric & Crafts departments will also generally get large bins of dollar fabric in every week, most of which is Christmas or Winter-themed during the holiday season. Many of which are just as nice as the fabrics which normally have a higher price-per-yard. Fiber content doesn’t matter a great deal when it comes to decorative fabric. In fact, fabrics with high synthetic fiber content can be conveniently more stain-resistant than more costly natural fibers.

Add on a few dollars so that you can get spools of thread in forest green, bright red, burgundy, black, white and blue and chances are you are going to be able to match any fabric from the array of choices.

So with minimal sewing skills you can create beautiful Christmas throw pillows, placemats, and table runners to give to your family or friends.
