Cheap Homemade Gift Ideas

An interesting, yet cheap homemade gift idea is to make a message in a bottle. My family just loves making and sharing these with other family members and friends.
First, start by typing or hand writing a letter with your thoughts, sentiments, etc. from your heart that you want to share with the recipient of the gift. Once you are done with that, roll the letter up as tightly as you can, and tie it off with some string, yarn, or any material of your choosing, depending on the "look" you are going for.
After that buy a glass bottle, jar, or vase of your choosing. We have found bottles at craft stores, dollar stores, or you can also find treasures at thrift type stores as well.
Once you have selected the jar or bottle of your choosing, fill the bottom with rocks, pebbles, sand, potpourri, or anything you find interesting and beautiful. You can purchase these items, use things you already own, or go out and explore nature and fill up the bottom of your jar or bottle with your findings. My family and I like to sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon spice in the bottom for a subtle yet fragrant smell when the recipient opens their bottle.
Once you have filled the bottom, place the letter you have already tied closed inside your bottle. Sprinkle some more of your filler items from the bottom on top of the letter, then cork the bottle or jar closed. Tie an older looking rustic type ribbon that looks as if it was weathered at the top, then decorate it how you see fit. We use jewels, hearts, and beads on ours.
This is a cheap homemade gift idea that not only looks very interesting but also shares your feelings as well. Everyone always loves this gift and thinks they are unique and creative!
