Christmas Card Making Ideas

Making Christmas cards does not rely on your having a whole lot of creative ideas or on having a whole lot of artistic materials, either. In fact, you can get pretty far with a sheaf of printer paper (cheaper than card stock, and no one should hold it against you), a paper cutter for trimming each sheet of paper into the makings of two folded or four postcard-style cards (worth the investment over using scissors for everything). If you’re doing a lot of this – I recommend the sliding kind made by Fiskars, as it is a lot harder to hurt yourself on one of those than the kind that slices down onto the paper, a decent pair of scissors, a glue stick, and a box of pretty paper goods that came your way the year before, like old wrapping paper and last year’s cards. There are many Christmas card making ideas from using last year’s things.
See, every year most people end up tearing, crumpling and trashing a ridiculous amount of pretty things, because those pretty things were wrapped around what they were really interested in at the time. If you disregard the eye-rolling, however, and take a little extra care and time, gift-wrap offers a wealth of gorgeous material to re-use.
Most cards, especially if you plan them to fit in envelopes, are not going to be any larger than an average space of wrapping paper conveniently between folds and pieces of tape around a box. Cut and paste pieces of ribbon, and/or selections from the fronts of Christmas cards you received the year before to make a stunning seasonal collage over the wrapping paper, and a far fancier (or in some cases, cuter) card than you’re likely to have ever bought.
