Below are proven strategies to save money that will keep your cash where it belongs; with you!
- Loads
If you wash a good amount of laundry, you'll want to have a large dryer. We made the mistake of purchasing a smaller dryer many years ago and found ourselves stuffing the dryer too full.
As you've probably guessed, our clothes didn’t fully dry.
Believe me, if you're running 3 or more loads a week, go with the larger dryer. You'll save yourself some headaches.
It works the other way too. If you are going to be doing frequent small loads, the smaller drum capacity dryer will be your best bet.
- Moisture Sensor
If you get your hands on a dryer with one of these, you're in heaven. What a wonderful feature of energy efficient dryers.
A moisture sensor "senses' when the clothes are dry and then shuts off the dryer. This way you're not wasting needless energy over drying your clothes. You just have to love this option!
Now, I'll tell you, a dryer with a motion sensor will cost you more than a unit without one; but it more than pays for itself in energy cost savings.
By the way, the next best thing to the sensor is the "manual timer". Using this will control how long your dryer runs. This comes in particularly handy when you’re not running a full load.
- Gas Or Electric
You'll find that gas dryers are usually more expensive than electric dryers.
On the flipside, over the lifetime of the unit, gas dryers are less expensive to run then their electric counterparts.

- What Are The Most Energy Efficient Dryers
Drum roll please.. And the answer is: “air drying” your clothes. Some people use outside clothes lines to air dry their clothes using the sun and the wind.
Especially if we won't need our clothes for a while, our family hangs clothes using a clothesline. We even hang some clothes that are almost dry at the tops of doors or on our shower rod.
Bottom line, its free - being frugal at its finest!
- Washer Spin
We use a front load washer which is the best when talking quality and energy efficiency. So, if you wash your clothes in a high efficiency washer using its "fast spin cycle", this will wring out most of the water from your clothes.
This means your dryer will be able to dry your clothes quicker, use less energy, and cut down your utility costs.
- Lint Filter
You're probably already aware of this, but you'd be surprised how many people are not. So, if passing along this tip helps your family, friend or neighbor, that's excellent.
The tip - keep your dryer's lint filter clean. In fact, we clean this little puppy after every load, just out of habit.
A full lint filter slows down your dryer's airflow, causing its motor to have to work harder.
