Energy Efficient TV

Lowering Energy Costs

Find It Fast

You'll find that an energy efficient TV is key as one of your strategies to save money.

Just given the fact that so many families use their televisions on a regular basis, using non-efficient units put a big drain on their utility bills.

From a frugal spending standpoint, lowering television costs using low cost sets make good financial sense to keep more cash in your pocket. energy efficient tv

Saving Money - Energy Efficient TV

  • LCD or Plasma?

An LCD television is more power efficient than the plasma. Because plasma's have brighter pictures using more pixels, they're basically power vacuums.

If you go with a TV that's less than 40 inches in size, the LCD is your best bet in saving money on your electrical costs. However, if you want to go with a larger screen television, you'll save more power by using a projection TV.

  • Size Matters

Size isn't the only factor that affects your TV’s power consumption, but it’s a big factor.

Since larger TV's require more power to run effectively, they siphon up more power then their smaller television counterparts.

Bottom line, you're probably not going to want to go the extreme of getting a micro TV that you need binoculars to watch in your living room.

We've got a small LCD TV for our bedroom that's easy on the eyes and have a Sony projection TV (bought many years ago) for our large room.

I know, the plasma's are pretty; but they're also pretty expensive.

  • Timers

Most TV's have built in timers that will automatically shut off the TV based on how long you set the timer for.

You'll love using this feature especially if you have kids. It's a good power saver.

  • Unplug It

Even when you have your television turned off, it still uses some power. Now, I'll admit that I don't always remember to do this, but turning off the power strip (surge control) will help you to further conserve electricity.

  • Energy Star Rating

It's a pretty darn good bet that an energy star rated TV will save you cash on your power consumption. When shopping for a new TV, even if you decide on a plasma, you'll want to take a look at its energy star rating.

  • Other Research Source

Here's a good research site for TV's as well.
