Frugal Christmas Ideas

This year more and more people are looking for ways to save money on Christmas but no one wants to give bad or cheap gifts.

One great frugal gift for a man who loves to grill is a grilling set from Target. This will only cost $20 but it comes in a nice metal case and all the tools are stainless steel and very functional.

Another frugal gift is to give a gift card to a store instead of a restaurant. In giving gift cards to restaurants one always feels the pressure to cover the cost of the meal and so by purchasing a gift card to a store one can save money and the person will still be able to find a great gift.

Another great frugal idea is to give chocolate. Chocolate boxes can be a great idea for anyone and can be quite inexpensive depending on the maker. Local chocolate makers often have a great selection for a great price and offer some nice personalized touch. This will satisfy the receiver and not set you back too much in your budget.

Another option is to make a batch of fudge and give that out in nice containers which will please anyone on your list.

At our big family Christmas with extended family we started doing something similar. We each brought a $25 gift and put it under the tree.

Then we drew numbers. If you were number 1, you picked a present first and unwrapped it, if you were number 2, you could either steal the present number 1 opened and number 1 could open another present or you could open a present.

It makes Christmas interesting and there is more time spent together bonding while opening gifts instead of all the focus being on who spent the most on presents this year. I hope these tips can help!! They have certainly cut down on my Christmas costs!

Cheap Artificial Christmas Trees

You're going to love this tip because it's a huge money saver! As you know, the cost of buying a Christmas tree every year is downright expensive. That's why about 20 years ago; we purchased a nice quality artificial Christmas tree.

We bought it at Frank's Nursery and it still looks like the day we bought it. It's a beautiful tree; it looks real, and you don't have to worry about watering it or picking up dead needles.

Best of all, you don't have to fork out $50.00 to $150.00 a year for a tree. Our artificial paid for itself in 2-3 years!

I would suggest you visit your local nursery shops. Also, you can visit Home Depot, Lowes and shop around on the internet to make sure you're getting a quality tree at a good price. A couple of good indicators: the tree should look real and be backed up by at least a 10 year warranty.

Frugal Christmas Decorations

You'll find that cheap Christmas decorations are immense money savers. So how do you save? Re-use last year's lights and ornaments. Why go out and spend money if you don't have to?

You can also make your own ornaments using brown paper bags, old CD's and beads.

Cheap Christmas Stockings

Here's a low cost stocking idea. If you have the time, you can go to your local crafts store to get the materials and directions to make your own stockings. We did this years ago and they're gorgeous.

Another alternative would be for you to buy inexpensive red felt stockings (most discount stores carry them) and sheets of the felt at your local craft outlet.

Then, you can cut out the shapes from the felt and glue whatever patterns you like. You can do a Santa Clause, snowman, snowflakes, you name it! Our good friend did this and their stockings look great.

Wrapping It Up

I enjoyed sharing my frugal Christmas ideas with you. Have a wonderful Christmas!
