Frugal Household Insulation Tips

by Bobby Soper
(MI)

I thought this would be especially helpful going into the winter months. Insulation has saved us a ton of money on our heating costs.

Key places that you'll want to make sure you insulate are in your attic and basement.

You'll want to make sure the heating ducts (especially in your attic) are insulated. You lose almost half of your heated air if your ducts aren't insulated!

We also weatherstrip all of our your doors. By the way, a cold windy day will give you a good idea of where you may have missed on some of the stripping.

Caulking is another money saver. Key places to seal are openings to the outside where air leaks in. ie: windows, plumbing, cable, electrical connections are a good start.
