Most Energy Efficient Window

Lowering Energy Costs

energy efficient windows

When it comes to having the most energy efficient window, insulation is one of the key strategies to saving money on your utility bills.

In fact, badly insulated windows are one of the largest sources of home energy loss.

You'll find that it all comes down to knowing what to look for in a good window and understanding the cost of replacement windows.

Taking a frugal approach, your goal will be to find a quality product that will lead to lowering costs.

How Energy Efficient Windows Save You Cash

During the winter, good energy efficient windows will keep your cold air outside and trap warm air inside. In the summer, it prevents that expensive cool AC air from escaping.

You'll also find that energy efficient window coverings are crucial to keeping your energy costs down and home energy savings up.

How To Find The Best Replacement House Windows

most energy efficient window

First, you'll need to have a good idea of what window will best suit your needs. You'll want one that’s reasonably priced and of high quality.

I recommend you do what my family did. Get a good vinyl double paned window that's Energy star rated. You can run up to your local window retailer and take a look at the NFRC label found on Energy Star qualified windows.

NFRC stands for National Fenestration Rating Council which is a third party, non- profit company. It was set up to help us compare energy and performance features on windows.

When you look at the NFRC label, take a look at the following:

  • U-Factor

This basically tells you how good the window's insulation is. The lower the U-Factor, the better the window’s insulation. U-Factor ranges from .25 to 1.25; so the closer you get to that .25 the better.

  • SHGC - Solar Heat Gain Coefficient

This will tell you how well the window blocks solar heat from coming into your house. So, the lower this number, the less solar heat your window will allow in.

  • There are other NFRC ratings, but the U factor and SHGC are the most important. By the way, getting the best window for your climate using NFRC is found here.

Summary

It's really that simple. Finding the most energy efficient window simply boils down to going after a double pained vinyl window that's energy star rated. Then you compare each window's performance by the NFRC information.

Don’t forget to get at least three estimates on installation costs to further reduce your cost outlay.

Take Care!
