Wedding Budgeting Tips

  • Budget For Your Wedding

You'll want to figure out what you can afford before planning, not the other way around to avoid overspending.

  • Choosing Your Wedding Day

We know, Saturday's are usually the day of choice. But Friday's are cheaper. Also, having your wedding in the fall or winter will save you money on the venue and supplies.

  • Alcohol

Avoid paying for champagne because sparkling wine will be cheaper. Also, hunt for a venue that allows you to supply your own alcohol. Or, you can keep an open bar to a minimal and only serve beer, wine and sodas. This will save you a great deal of money.

  • Guest List

It's your day, so invite guests that you really want to be at your wedding. Feeding guests is a big wedding expense. The more guests you invite, the more money you will spend. You can always invite additional guests to the post dinner ceremony.

  • Food

Sit downs are the most expensive meals. A buffet will save you money. Of course, if you have your wedding reception at a home, you can't beat grandma's cooking. On a serious note, home catering will be a great way to cut down on your meal budget.

If you shop around, you'll be surprised at how much you can save.

  • Entertainment

A good wedding band is going to run you big bucks. We opted for a DJ who did a fantastic job. With a DJ you also have a much wider selection of music to choose from and dance too.

  • Photography

If you don't know someone personally, take the time to shop around for a good wedding photographer and get at least 3 quotes. Once you have the quotes, you'll find yourself in a better bargaining position to drive the cost down.

Also, make sure you get references for the most recent weddings they've done and take a look at their photo portfolio. The pictures are important because they will always be there for you to reflect upon down the road.

  • Invitations

You may want to consider printing out your own invitations. There are many online stationer's that will offer this service for free or at a minimal cost. You pay for the paper and envelopes, then use their software to print the stationary from your own PC. You'll also be able to enter your own content and preview it before you print so as not to make any costly mistakes.

  • Transportation

Limo's are expensive. Instead of going this route, why not rent a nice car or borrow a luxury car from family or friends?

  • Jewelry

Plain gold or white gold wedding bands will save you money. There are also some fantastic silver bands on the market that are also very affordable.

  • Wedding Cake

Have a friend or relative make you a wedding cake. That can be their wedding present to you. Or, you can opt for a smaller layered cake.

Wedding Budgeting Tips

Wedding Dresses On A Budget

You can buy your material and have a seamstress make your wedding dress. Or, you may want to consider buying a nice evening gown or renting your wedding dress for the day.

You'll save big money as opposed to purchasing it off the rack.

Wedding Flowers On A Budget

We saved a great deal of money by arranging our own flowers. We took a local community flower arranging course which helped greatly.

By the way, you can also purchase flowers from wholesalers in your area, use flowers from your own garden or use silk flowers; all of which are money savers.

Wedding Favors On A Budget

It goes without saying that wedding favors can be an important part of your day.

You can make the favors and centerpieces yourself. There are also several "how to" sites on the internet. Here's a fantastic one.
